NISSA LA BELLA
GEOGRAPHY
Nice is located in the heart of one of the most popular regions in France : « la Côte d’Azur » or « French Riviera ». Mobility in Italia, Switterland, in the Alps is very easy thanks to this central position in south east of France. Moreover, the national railway system allow us to move in all the country.
The city center is placed between the sea and hills, that explain its singular climate in France : the most nice, muggy weather and never less than 5°C, never !!!
During all the year, some people run or roll on the « Promenade des Anglais », and the bravest go to the mediterranean sea !!!
In mountainous region, back to the city, we can go hiking, riding, horse excursions, and cannyoning, rafting. We can ski in the « Alpes Maritimes » with less of 2 hours driving.
To conclude, Nice give us all the sea, sun and mountain delights.
About the demography, Nice is a very « old » city : a lot of french senior citizens comes here for their pension (27% of the population) ... but don’t worry, there is also a lot of nice and welcoming students !! It’s important to notice that Nice is a crowded city with 350000 citizens.
UNIVERSITY
There isn’t any campus in Nice, faculties are situated in different parts of the city, and each one has got its own operation, so its dificult for us to communicate and meet students from others faculties excepted nurse and physiotherapist students. The medicine faculty is near the Hopital Pasteur, at the top of Pasteur hill, outskirts of town like 15min in car. Although far from the center, the setting is very pleasant, and it looking onto all the city.
There is a « RU » , a student cafeteria where we can have breakfast and lunch, but it’s not expensive at all, only 2.75 the menu, and a « BU » medical student library into the faculty, it’s a great aset. Moreover, there isn’t a lot of students, just 120 students by promotions, so we are very close, we know each other and and generaly we have good relations with our professors and the administration.
To finish, Nice ranks among the best : we are the second at the « ECN » : the national grade exam at the end of the sixth year.
PUBLIC HOSPITALS
There is four different public academy hospitals in Nice : Hopital Pasteur : (in front of the faculty) departments are : cardiology, diabetology, thoracics surgery, nephrology, neurology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, urology, ... Hopital Saint Roch (in the heart of the town, it’s the oldest hospital in Nice) departments : emergency, intensives cares, psychiatrics emergency reception, traumatology, vascular surgery, ophtalmology, ... Hopital l’Archet 1 and 2 : (on the opposite side of Pasteur) departments : digestive surgery, pediatrics surgery, orthopedics surgery, dermatology, endocrinology, gynecology-obstetrics, hematology, infectious deseases, internal medicine, rhumatology, pediatry, ... Hopital Cimiez : (localised near Pasteur, in the top of Cimiez hill) it’s an hospital specialized in geriatrics cares.
STUDENT LIFE
Like every medical school in France, we have a « bureau des étudiants » (BDE), it’s like a local medical student comitee. The BDE organizes parties, travels, week-ends, social and human actions, public health actions
and mobilisations, in partnership with nurse student comitee and physiotherapist student comitee. In Nice, we are 10 students in this local comitee, 10 friends very motivated to work together for all the students. Generaly, there is one student party a week and once medical student party a month. But we also have parties in the old town, especially in pubs and restaurants in the old town ...
SPECIAL FOOD
Come here to discover the « niçoises » culinary specialities : oil products like pissaladière (it’s a kind of pizza with a lot of onions...hum delicious !), pistou (the most famous are the pesto pasta with basil/garlic/olive oil), ratatouille, huile d’olive, and cocca, socca (chikpea product), « salade niçoise », ...
SOCIAL PROGRAMM :
1.Stroll in the center and the old town which preserve the authentic’s side of the city !
2. Mobility help to go to the neighbouring cities like Cannes (with the international Cinema Festival), Menton, St Paul de Vence village and Italy (do not miss Vintimiglia and San Remo markets) or Switzerland ; you can reach all the places by bus or train ;
3. Incomings party : niçoise gastronomy, meeting with erasmus students ;
4.Medical student parties FREE, it’s the occasion to meet the local students and have fun with them 
!!!
